This family gathers annually on July 4th in Central Pennsylvania as we have done for over 100 years!
John Palmer (10/26/1773 - 3/29/1861) married Mary Reed (1787 - 2/12/1875). John may have been born in Berks or Bucks County, PA. He was a tenant farmer in the Turbotville/McEwensville area of Northumberland County by 1810, and was in his 60's when his only son was born (Mary was almost 50). A rumor had him born in Scotland, but both the 1850 and 1860 PA Census report him born in PA while Mary Reed was listed as born in Ireland.
Margaret Palmer (about 1818 - October 1870), married Philip Low or Lowe (1811 - 1854) of Moreland Twp., Lycoming Co., PA. When Philip died young, after about 11 years of marriage, and left her with 6 young children, she probably remarried, but we haven't found proof of this yet. Their children were: Russell Low, Robert Newton Low, Erastus P. Low, Wilson Low, Thomas J. Low, and Mary Harriet Low.
Son James Palmer, born 1832, died 1912, married Mary Bruch (or Bruck) who lived 1834-1919. She was the daughter of Peter Bruch and Mary Anne Dell*, also of Northumberland County. They had 12 children:
Emma (1855-1881) m. Albert Bergenstock* and died young
Mary Agnes (1857-1946) m. N. Calvin Robenalt*
Sarah Alice (9/26/1858-9/14/1936) m. Clinton C. Yagel*
Margaret Jane (1861-1949) m. John Harrison Barber
John Ferdinand (1862-1864) and his twin, Thomas (1862-1864)
daughter who died as an infant, b. & d. 3/14/1865
Ida Ellen (1866-1937) m. 1st James Bergenstock*, m. 2nd William Snyder*
daughter who died as an infant b. & d. 3/11/1868
Elizabeth Lowe (1869-1948) m. William Clinton Kerr* and moved to Maryland
Follmer Dell (1872-1957) m. Irene Edna Renner* also moved to Maryland
Wayland R., MD (1877-1936) m. 1st Mary Stitzel, m. 2nd Amy Eliason* - practiced medicine in Holidaysburg, PA
In 1889, this family gathered for the first Palmer family reunion to visit together with the families of Lizzie and William Kerr and Follmer and Irene Palmer who had relocated with the Watsontown Table Works to Hagerstown, MD.
All children born to the sons in this generation of Palmers were daughters, thus there is no living descendant named Palmer from this line.
* - I have additional information on children of these marriages
